Mindful Self-Compassion
Silent Retreat

The Wisdom of Boundaries

April 21 - 25, 2027, in Italy

Returning to the quiet intelligence of body, mind, and heart

Five days of silence, meditation, nature, and compassionate practice for professionals who wish to deepen their practice and reconnect with embodied wisdom.  Explore how self-compassion, fierce compassion, and healthy boundaries can restore balance, strengthen self-respect, and support sustainable ways of caring for yourself and others.

All guidance will be done in English, with translation to Italian.

Guided by Helle Laursen and Laura Bassi.

Why a silent retreat?

For those who teach, care for others, or hold space professionally, silence is more than a pause from daily life. It is an opportunity to listen beneath the constant noise of thoughts, responsibilities, and expectations.

This retreat is an invitation to return to the quiet inner wisdom that may be difficult to connect with in a busy life. Without the usual demands and distractions, we begin to notice what has quietly been asking for our attention.  A silent retreat offers the rare opportunity to notice subtle signals before they become exhaustion, resentment, or disconnection.

Five days of shared silence create a supportive environment for restoring balance, strengthening embodied self-compassion, and reconnecting with the wisdom that naturally guides wise action and sustainable care for others.

This retreat may be for you if...

  • You spend much of your working life supporting others.
  • You notice how easily responsibility can outweigh recovery.
  • You wish to deepen your meditation and compassion practice.
  • You are curious about the relationship between fierce compassion, self-respect, boundaries and sustainable care.
  • You long for a few days where you can pause all that needs to be produced, solved, or achieved

What to expect?

  • The daily schedule begins at 8 am and ends at 9 pm
  •  Teacher-led meditations, topics that deepen your practice and new perspectives on how to integrate contemplative practices actively into a busy everyday life
  •  Plenty of time for your own practice and reflections throughout the day
  • Access to the common spaces in the venue Borgo Zen, including the relaxing area. There's another group at the venue at the same time
  • Our groups has our own meditation room - The Dome, available for us during the entire stay
  • Bring your hiking boots and use the beautiful surrounding nature
  • The teachers will be available every day for limited individual support, ensuring the retreat provides space for you to deepen your self-compassion

I deeply appreciated the whole experience. The freedom to choose to participate in a group or do what felt right for my body. The teaching was phenomenal!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your teachings, your tone of voice, and your way of embodying self-compassion have helped me untangle the knots within and find my way back to trust – in myself and in humanity.

Wisdom of Boundaries

In nature, healthy boundaries are not walls. Rivers have banks. Trees have bark. Skin protects the body while remaining alive and sensitive. Perhaps our own boundaries are meant to function in the same way: creating clarity without separation and protection without disconnection.

Many who care deeply for others gradually lose touch with the quiet signals of their own bodies and minds. We keep giving, adapting, explaining, fixing, and holding space until our inner boundaries become blurred.

Through silence, meditation, mindful movement, nature, and daily reflections, we will explore boundaries not as walls, but as expressions of wisdom, self-respect, and fierce compassion.

We will investigate and reflect on:

  • How do I recognize the first signals that I have moved beyond my own limits?
  • How can I trust the wisdom of my body?
  • How can self-compassion support clear and healthy boundaries?
  • What does the courage to protect what matters look like in everyday professional and personal life?
  • How can boundaries help us not to lose sight of our needs, and still maintain an honest connection with the other?

The intention is not to become more productive or resilient, but to restore balance, strengthen our capacity to stay present, and reconnect with the inner wisdom that supports both ourselves and those we serve. Which is the foundation for being productive and resilient.

Silence helps us attune to ourselves, and silence creates the conditions for listening deeply, making it easier to know when to move forward, when to pause, and when to say yes or no.

FAQ

Why silence?

Silence is an invitation to return to the quiet inner wisdom, and listen deeply. Without the usual demands and distractions, we begin to notice what has quietly been asking for our attention. Silence will not give you all the answers, but it may help you hear the ones that have been quietly waiting beneath the noise.  Silence helps us attune to ourselves, and silence creates the conditions for listening deeply, making it easier to know when to move forward, when to pause, and when to say yes or no.

Why a mindful self-compassion silent retreat?

When a silent retreat is based upon the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program, it focuses on explicitly cultivating inner warmth and wisdom.

Why a 5-day silent retreat?

This retreat offers not only a unique setting and focus on self-compassion, but also fulfills the requirements for most mindfulness and self-compassion-based Teacher Trainings.

It is for most a very gentle way to reconnect with ourselves and listen deeper than our everyday allows.

How do I get to Borgo Zen retreat Center?

There will be guidlines available for you soon. Borgo Zen is located approximately 1 hr from the airport Orio al Serio. Milan has several airports.

The closest train station is that of Bergamo.
Address is Via Roma 110 – 24010 Olda, Taleggio – BG

Here's a PDF with 'How to get here' information.

Feel free to connect with Laura Bassi with practical questions. Click here

Why is there a theme for the retreat?

During the morning session, there will be a topic of the day. This topic highlights aspects of self-compassion practices that focus on relationships. The topic will offer food for thought, you can reflect on in your day-to-day practice. There will be specific ways offered to reflect on the topic during the day.

Our experience is that the combination of silence, meditation, nature, a safe space, and relevant topics for reflection sets the foundation for deeply nourishing days.

What is the schedule for the days?

There will be a more detailed schedule available later, but the days will alternate between seated practices, gentle movement, walks in nature, and eating together in silence. There will be clear guidance for how to spend the days, and plenty of time to do practices together as well as on your own at certain times.
